So many of you may be asking yourselves, “hey Chels, what’s Freecember?” Every year, Frankie V. and Geena the Latina from Channel 933 host a holiday toy drive concert to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. Admission is free (hence the name FREEcember), all you have to do is bring a new unwrapped toy and you’re in. This year’s concert was at Westfield Plaza Bonita and featured performances by Bea Miller, Becky G, Jake Miller, and *gasps* Nick Jonas!
So this was my 3rd year in a row going to Freecember, and earlier in the week I won meet and greet passes for Becky G by listening to Channel 933 and being caller #9. I love Becky G, so as you can imagine that’s all I can and will be talking about for a while! Because I won meet and greets, I was going to be in a separate line to get into the mall… so I really didn’t have to worry about waking up at the crack of dawn or earlier to get a spot in line. BUT, the early bird catches the worm (most of the time anyways).
The line started outside Red Robbin and extended past JC Penny, down the stairs, past Applebee’s and past Macy’s. I walked up and down the line a few times to check out the crowds and to meet a ton of you guys too!
I was one of the first people inside the mall. Everything seemed calm at first (as seen below).
The calm before the storm… fans began to run to get their spots and quickly filled up fenced off sections all around the mall’s food court area.
Sadly I don’t have any pictures from Bea’s performance, because my meet and greet was during her set. But shortly after, Becky G took the stage and she tore it up!
Up next was Jake Miller. He serenaded the crowd with stripped down versions of his songs, including my favorite song “First Flight Home”!
And finally, Nick Jonas. It was pretty crazy to see someone I idolized growing up performing right in front of me at a place I visit at least once every 2 weeks. I know many people can say the same, which is why the crowd was going nuts the entire time he was on stage.
I had an amazing time at Freecember and can’t wait for next year’s show! I hope you guys will join me there too.
