SO CHELS… WHAT’S FREECEMBER?

Freecember is Channel 933′s annual holiday show and toy drive. This is essentially San Diego’s version of a “holiday ball”. Various artists will take the stage and perform a few songs. The show lasts about 2 hours total, and is family friendly! The best part is, admission is free! All you have to do to get in is bring a new unwrapped toy, which will go to a kid in need this holiday season.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

ABOUT THE SHOW + TOY TALK

Q: There’s no way this could ACTUALLY be free. Is it?

A: Of course it’s free! That’s why it’s called Freecember. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and you’re in!

Q: What happens if I don’t bring a toy? Do I really need to bring a toy to get in?

A: Your toy = your ticket. No toy = no entry.

Q: Can I bring more than one toy?

A: Of course you may! The minimum is one toy per person.

Q: I’m taking my little sister, she LOVES Why Don’t We! Does she still need a toy to get in?

A: Everyone coming in needs a toy.

Q: How much does the toy have to cost? Can I just get a toy when I go Black Friday shopping and bring that one… would it work?

A: Of course! (Seriously, get your toys on Black Friday lol) there’s no set price range for the toys, but give something coming from your heart. If you were the one receiving toys this Christmas, what would you like?

Q: Would it work if I brought a stuffed animal I’ve had for years? No one would tell it’s old.

A: People can tell, trust me. Honey…. get a NEW UNWRAPPED TOY. The toys will be going to children in need! Like I just said, a great option is to get the toys on Black Friday.

Q: Is this all ages or do I need to have an adult with me?

A: It’s ALL AGES! However, you may need an adult to come with you to check in for a meet and greet… but we’ll discuss that later!

Q: How long is the show?

A: In the past, the show has last 2 hours, and every artist sings between 4-7 songs.

Q: When do the doors open?

A: An hour before the show starts!

VENUE STUFF

Q: Where’s the Spanish Landing park?

A: The Spanish Landing Park is located at 3900 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101. It’s directly in front of the San Diego Airport. Locals may recall a huge ship being built here a few years back.

Q: How early should I get there?

A: This is a general admission show, meaning first come, first served. You’re a professional fangirl, so you know the drill! The early bird catches the worm, so get there as early as you’d like! Once capacity is reached, no one will be let inside the venue.

Q: What’s the capacity of the venue? And is everyone who brings a toy getting in for sure?

A: Since it’s an outdoors show, expect tons of room to move around! Please plan on arriving early… but with a lineup like this, you KNOW you’ll be up bright and early!

Q: Since it’s a park, can’t anyone just walk up and get in without a toy?

A: The concert area will be fenced off.

MEET AND GREETS

Q: So there’s gonna be meet and greets? CHELS, SEND HELP, HOW. How do I win them? I NEED TO MEET MY BOYS!

A: Meet and greets will be given out on-air at different times of the day ALL THIS WEEK. There are online contests as well! I’ll describe the online contests in depth below.

ONLINE MEET AND GREET CONTESTS

FROM CHANNEL 933 – Click here to enter to win a pair of meet and greets for Why Don’t We, and click here to enter to win a pair of meet and greets for Alex Aiono. Both of these contests are raffles, and the deadline to enter is on Wednesday, November 29 at 11:59PM. You must be 13+ to enter.

FROM SDCCU – Click here to head on over to SDCCU’s YouTube channel, subscribe, and comment the name of the artist you’d like to meet. Six people will be chosen at random after 11AM on Thursday, November 30. Good luck!

Q: HOW DO I WIN ON-AIR THO BECAUSE IT’S SOOOOO HARD

A: First things first, listen to Channel933!  At different times of the day, they’ll be giving out meet and greets. If you’re caller #9, you win! BE PERSISTENT, DON’T GIVE UP! A huge piece of advice I have for you is to listen on an actual radio… your car radio, your boombox, etc. and not online, since the online streams are delayed a bit.

Q: Can’t I just buy them?

A: Meet and greets can only be won, they can’t be bought.

Q: What’s the station’s phone number?

A: (858) 570-1933

Q: Do I have to be from San Diego to win?

A: You must live in San Diego to win on-air.

Q: How old do I have to be to win?

A: You must be 18 or older to win any on-air contests, so you’ll need to pass the phone over to someone over 18. Their information will be collected, and they will need to join you at the meet and greet check in.

Q: Do I need an adult to come with me to check in for the meet and greet?

A: It is recommended that if you’re under 18, an adult comes with you to check in for the meet and greet.

Q: How do the meet and greets work? I’ve never done a meet and greet with 933 before!

A: If you win a meet and greet, you’ll be contacted by someone from the promotions team a few days before the show with your check-in time, as well as the location of the check-in area. Usually, this is a 933 tent with a banner that says “Meet & Greet Check-In”. Meet and greet passes are non-transferrable, meaning whoever their name is under MUST be present. Think of it as a guest list – whoever’s name is on the list has to be there… so if they’re under your grandma’s name, she can’t just drop you off, she has to be there. Once you’re checked in, you’ll be given a pass. For the actual meet and greet, you’ll get grouped up for the photo (usually it’s pairs) and you’ll have enough time to say hi to the artist and get a hug. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get any autographs or have your phones out. Your photos will be taken by the station’s photographer, and posted to Channel933.com over the weekend.

Q: WAIT – So I can’t have my pic taken on my phone? Oh no 🙁

A: All photos will be taken by the station’s photographer. But don’t worry – he’s always on point and your pictures will come out great!

Q: If I win a meet and greet, do I still need a toy to get in?

A: YUP.

Q: Does the first person in line get to meet the artist of their choice?

A: Unfortunately, no 🙁 but wouldn’t that be cool?

Q: So that means not everyone’s going to get to meet them? It’s a free show though. That doesn’t make sense.

A: That’s right. The only way to get into the meet and greet is to win… but don’t worry! You know I’ll be helping you out!

Q: CHELS CHELS CHELS SO THERE’S REALLY GOING TO BE MEET AND GREETS FOR WHY DON’T WE? OMG CHELS!!!!!!!

A: Yes!

Q: Can WDW sign my hoodie?

A: Usually there are no autographs allowed at the meet and greets, so I wouldn’t count on it. Sorry!

Q: My group chat asked for a video from Corbyn. Can he record one at the meet and greet?

A: Typically, phones aren’t even allowed to be out during the meet and greet! Again, I absolutely wouldn’t count on it, since it’s basically go in, hugs, get your picture taken and then leave.

Q: Why are they so strict? It’s just a meet and greet, it’s not like I’m going to try to kiss the boys or spend all day with them.

A: That’s all it is, a meet and greet. There are many other fans waiting to meet the guys, the guys have time constraints, and in order for it to be fair for everyone, it will be “rushed”.

Q: Well, can’t I give the guys a gift?

A: Of course! Personally, I never like to come empty handed to this type of stuff!

Q: For the online contests to meet Alex and WDW, do I really need to make an iHeartRadio account?

A: YES. And if I’m being honest, why wouldn’t you have an iHeartRadio account? It’s free, and so is the app! You can create your own custom playlists, listen to artist stations (Why Don’t We and Alex Aiono have their own stations!), and listen to THOUSANDS of live radio stations from all across the country!

Q: If I win a meet and greet, do I have to go to the station to pick something up?

A: Nope! There’s no cash value attached to your prize either. Just show up to the check-in area the morning of the show with whoever’s name is on the list, make sure they have a photo ID, and you’re good to go. Don’t forget your toys!

MISC

Q: CHELS, ARE YOU GOING?

A: Unfortunately, I won’t be at the show this year! However, I’ll be at 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball in LA the night before.

Q: Can I bring food?

A: Yes!
