If you’ve seen my Instagram stories when I’m at live music events, you’ve probably noticed that I go “WOOOOOO” instead of screaming… and I do that a lot.
The 2018 KAABOO Del Mar Music Festival took place this past weekend at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego County. This was the festival’s 4th edition, and featured performances from Katy Perry, Robert Plant, Foo Fighters, Post Malone, Imagine Dragons, Halsey, and more over the span of three days.
This was my first time being at KAABOO for all three days! I was definitely excited to catch my favorite artists, check out all the amazing artwork and bask in the sun! Here’s a glimpse of how my first day at KAABOO went.
Note: I’d HIGHLY suggest watching my KAABOO coverage on my 2019 KAABOO Del Mar Instagram story highlight before reading any further!
So as with any music festival, you definitely need to do some prep before heading out. One of the main things on my mind was my outfits.
On Friday, I wore a blue striped slit maxi dress. I never wear maxi dresses. EVER. Part of it has to do with the fact that my legs aren’t that long and I just feel way awkward in them.
I saw this one at Forever 21, it actually fit, and thought it would be perfect for the occasion! I also wore my white “front row boots”, also from F21.
Friday was my exploration day! I made sure that I checked out all the art in the ARTWORK contemporary art gallery, the murals outside, and familiarize myself with the festival’s layout.
See? There were tons of cute murals there that you could take pictures in front of!
On Friday I also caught performances from The Zombies, Halsey, and Post Malone. Anyone who has known me for long enough knows that my heart truly belongs to bands from the 60’s and 70’s, especially from the British Invasion era. I might have been one of the youngest people watching The Zombies that actually knew what was up, but it didn’t matter! The guys definitely still had it in them and the crowd was dancing. As for me? You can already assume how excited I was.
Later on, I met up with my friend Michelle and we went to catch Halsey’s set! She sang tons of hits from HFK and Badlands, and I saw pretty much everyone singing along, dancing, and having a great time. Tons of amazing energy. That’s exactly what you’d expect from a crowd, right?
And then… she brought out G-Eazy. Was I full on screaming at that point? Of course I was! (I might have cried a little too).
Incase you’ve been living under a rock or couldn’t draw the conclusion, YES – Gerald and Halsey are indeed back together. There were rumors swirling that he would be coming with her to the festival. I had been hoping all along that he would come, because I’m a huge fan of both artists.
Am I still freaking out over this? Of course I am.
After Halsey’s set ended, we made our way to the Grandview stage to catch Post Malone’s set! Post cranked through a ton of his hits, including “Better Now”, “White Iverson”, “Congratulations”, “Rockstar”, and my personal favorite, “I Fall Apart”. As you can imagine, his crowd was full of energetic youth. Once he finished, he jumped off the stage and made his way around the entire barricade (including all the way in the back around the sound booth), giving fans high fives.
Of course, I touched him. I got his cooties. Me… wash my hands… after touching Post Malone’s hand?
KAABOO Del Mar 2019 was GOALS! Are you ready to join me and thousands of other music lovers next year? Stay tuned for 2019 coverage!
