Well, I’ll start this off by reminding everyone that I’m aromantic. Upon seeing the trailers, I knew exactly what type of relationships would be featured in this movie. I CAN’T RELATE HAHA. However, this doesn’t mean I can’t relate to the need for a human connection of some sort with another being. It’s a feeling that can’t be replaced. Everyone deserves to be with the one (or thing) they love – in sickness and in health.

In Five Feet Apart, Stella (played by Haley Lu Richardson) is confined to a hospital for her Cystic Fibrosis treatment. While it may sound boring, Stella passes her time by sticking to her strict schedules of medicines. She also makes vlogs!
Stella then meets another CF patient named Will, (played by Cole Sprouse). Will and Stella are polar opposites when it comes to their personalities. Will is a go-getter, doesn’t like to play by the rules, he’s edgy. Yes, edgy is the perfect word to describe him!
Stella and Will develop feelings for another, but there’s one huge problem. Cystic Fibrosis patients are supposed to stay six feet apart from one another at all times, in order to prevent catching one another’s bacterias. Will eventually convinces Stella to live a little, and that having CF shouldn’t define either of them. They begin to spend time together, and instead of staying six feet apart, they decide to get a little closer.
Soooo…
While it would be SUPER messed up if I spoiled this film for you guys, especially the ending, it’s important to know two things about Five Feet Apart. First of all, make sure you bring some tissues with you. If you forget to bring your tissues, make sure you steal a bunch of napkins from the concessions counter (I’m NOT kidding!)
Second, enjoy life no matter what. This is the first time I’ll publicly admit that the topic of death and hearing people talk about being terminally ill/dying scares me. Ever since Avicii passed away last year, I’ve been extremely conscious about death and more terrified than ever. But I’m here. You are too. There were parts in the film that definitely set off my anxiety, but Stella and Will handled things like bosses. Our time on this planet is limited, and we should try to get the most out of every single day that we’re here to see.
Five Feet Apart opens in theaters nationwide on March 15 and is rated PG-13.
