Music-based movies I’m excited to see in 2019

The world has been treated to some fantastic music based films within the past few years! Whether it be biopics revolving around figures we love, or musicals featuring characters both new and old, having both of favorite things in the whole wide world come together is awesome.

While I’m still sobbing internally over the ending of A Star Is Born and thinking my life is going to play out just like Mia’s in La La Land, there’s a handful of flicks coming out this year revolving music that I’m very excited for!

Yesterday

If there’s only one thing you should know about me, it’s that I LOVE The Beatles. If I were alive in the 60’s, I probably would have been one of those girls screaming their lungs out at the Ed Sullivan show or Shea Stadium or something like that. As soon as I hear any of their songs playing in the distance, I jump up like an animal who has been awaken from hibernation and is FAMISHED, and there’s something right there for them to eat.

THIS IS ME. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. EXCEPT IT’S ME WITH THEIR WHOLE CATALOG.

Anyways, I hope you get it. I love The Beatles, and I can’t imagine how the music world would be right now if they never existed. Yesterday addresses that exact topic. What if you woke up one day and The Beatles had been erased from history?

Yesterday hits theaters on June 28.

Teen Spirit

When you were younger, did you ever wish you could be a famous musician? It sounded like the best thing ever, and still honestly does.

In Teen Spirit, Elle Fanning plays Violet, a Polish singer who has dreams of becoming a pop star. She enters a singing competition in hopes that it will launch her into stardom.

I’m HYPEEEE for this movie because Elle Fanning is actually singing in it! She’ll be singing songs by artists such as Robyn, Ellie Goulding, Tegan & Sara, Annie Lennox, and Sigrid. The movie also features music from Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Major Lazer, and so many more of my faves.

The soundtrack is loaded with bops too! Make sure you check out Teen Spirit in theaters on April 12.

Rocketman

Alright, back to the “I stan legends” rhetoric. Elton John is another one of my all time favorite artists, and he adds a touch of magic to just about everything he does. He’s a style icon too, and he may or may not be one of the reasons why I try to wear sequins and load my face up with glitter when I feel it’s appropriate. Go big or go home, right?

Rocketman stars Taron Egerton as Elton, and takes a look at his breakthrough years.

Rocketman hits theaters in North America on May 31.

Cats

A large part of my childhood consisted of seeing ads for Cats the musical on VHS tapes before my movies would start. Either they were on a ton of tapes, or I was watching the same tape every time. I never bothered fast forwarding them.

When I found out Taylor Swift was getting involved and playing the role of Bombalurina, I freaked. Knowing the feline lover she is, I can definitely imagine being a part of this film is a dream come true for her. Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo will also be a part of the cast.

The film is slated for release this winter.

Are you just as hyped up as I am to see any of these films? If so, let me know!
