While you’re in the process of breaking the play button (like me… high five!), I was able to catch up with Lee and talk about the process of creating the track. Read on and get to know Lee a little better!
Congrats on the release of “Not Gonna Buy Your Love”! What was it like recording it?
The recording process is always fun! I am lucky enough to be working with another writer and 2 producers who just so happen to be good friends of mine which means that we always have a great time in the studio. We managed to knock this track out over maybe 2-3 days, we had a few different versions however this one really sat well with all of us.
What inspired you to write the track?
This track is basically about appreciating the small things in life. In my 4 years in LA, I have dated and I have also heard many stories about people who only care about the car that you drive and take for granted when they get a gift or when you pay for their dinner. In my opinion, its the things that don’t cost any money that hold the most value.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I am influenced by all kinds of music, I was bought up listening to both Motown from my dads side of the family and punk rock from my mums side. So I pretty much enjoy listening to anything. Some artists that I really enjoy listening to are Lauv, Khalid and Panic at the Disco, however if you saw my playlist, you would be very surprised with some of the stuff you would see.
How has LA influenced your creativity?
100%. LA is a place where people come to chase their dreams, just like I did in 2015. Some days I really enjoy just going for walks and taking in the fact that I actually live here. Its crazy. Everybody is working on their passions and doing what they love and that energy rubs off on others around them. Los Angeles is a one of a kind city thats for sure.
By the way, happy birthday! Having music drop on your birthday is so awesome. Do you have any other special plans for this weekend?
Thank you! No plans this weekend! Since I just dropped a new track I plan on dedicating my next few weeks to promoting the heck out of it to make sure everybody in the world hears it! Maybe I will celebrate with a couple of close friends. Who knows?
Is there any advice you can serve up for aspiring musicians?
“If you don’t give up, you will never fail”. Its a quote I have had up on the wall in my room. It keeps me motivated. Do what you love, and if that love is music then you should be doing nothing else but music until you are where you want to be. Life is way too short to be spending your time doing something that your heart isn’t truly into.
