“I’m shook” “my wig was snatched” “wig flew”, or simply “wig” are words that come of out my mouth quite often, as well as the mouths of many other young people when we’re trying to describe something that left us awestruck.
When it comes to music, I’ll admit that these words can get thrown around pretty easily on social media. But there’s very few artists who I’ve seen live who, within the first 5 seconds of being on stage, truly have the power to make the hair follicles on my head stand up and make my imaginary wig fly.
Beyoncé is clearly one of them. Imagine Dragons? Without a doubt. Bruno Mars? You already know. Paul McCartney? Self explanatory.
And then there’s Lawrence…
Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are siblings from New York City who started writing songs at a young age. Together, they would listen the music of Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, Aretha Franklin, and other greats. Once they got older, they created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band featuring many of Clyde and Gracie’s long time friends.
Lawrence are currently on the road with Jon Bellion, opening up the shows on The Glory Sound Prep Tour. I had the chance to check them out last Wednesday at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. Y’all I have three words.
Oh. My. God.
Gracie came on stage and immediately showed the audience that she is IT by mesmerizing everyone with her high notes right off the bat. It instantly sparked an adrenaline rush that lasted for the entire duration of their set. There wasn’t a single dull moment, and that’s how every concert, no matter who the artist, should be.
