Asmik was born to be a star. Period.
Asmik Shiroyan is an electro-pop singer/songwriter who was born in Armenia. At the age of 3, she moved to Ukraine with her family. She grew up in an artistic family – her father was an artist and her mother was a dancer.
Asmik always knew that she wanted to be a creative. Asmik began taking choir, solfeggio and piano lessons around the age of 5, and began singing on stage at the age of 15. She was the lead vocalist in a national jazz orchestra in Europe.
In 2014 Asmik participated in The Voice of Ukraine, and performance of “Dziwniy jest ten swiat” reached two million views on YouTube within a week. She was also a participant in “Depi Evratesil” (National selection for Eurovision Song Contest).
Asmik has a smooth, soulful vocal tone, and draws inspiration from artists such as Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin. Elements of her love for EDM artists such as Rufus Du Sol, Diplo (represent!), and Kygo, also bleed into her sound. Asmik says, “I’m inspired by who I am today because I am at the point in my life where I trust myself more than ever. I want my music to encourage all girls to be confident and appreciate themselves”.
Asmik’s latest single “Nice” was produced by the Grammy Award-winning PK. It features ethereal synths and vibrant electronic soundscapes, and delivers an overall chill vibe that provides for easy, pleasant listening. “Nice” narrates life experiences, poignant moments, and certain milestones throughout Asmik’s journey. Her music covers themes from love and happiness, trials and lies, and successes and failures – which truly make up the human experience.
Asmik confides, “My life looks like a roller coaster, it took me high and at one point can threw me down. I am writing about it today because I feel differently about myself. I now know who I am and what I am capable of. I am also much stronger than I was before and I feel that I have something meaningful to say”.
