Orchid is a London based artist who wowed with her debut single “Gold Dust”. Today, Orchid has released her second single titled “Voodoo”!

In “Voodoo”, Orchid showcases a much darker, experimental side to her songwriting and production. The track was written about wanting to preserve a new, fledging relationship.
Orchid says, “I wrote ‘Voodoo’ about protecting a new love against anything that could bring harm to it, and protecting your own heart when you’re vulnerable for someone else. I think that experience is universal – but it’s even stronger for me, being from a culture that is very superstitious where you’re taught to take nothing good for granted. You’re taught that the eyes of other people can be dangerous; to trust in rituals and symbols to guard against evil and to keep things that are precious and beautiful a secret to keep them safe.”
Along with the single, the music video for “Voodoo” is out now too! The video is based on superstition and supernatural forces.
“‘Voodoo’ is the most culturally rooted song from these releases for me, but I only realised that in full when it came to visualising it and creating the video. Even though the song is slow and more ethereal, I still wanted this video to bring out the movement and deeper energy of the production and also the shift in power within the lyrics as they progress,” Orchid said.
She went on to explain, “These upcoming releases tell a few stories from my life. All of them are super personal and lyric-centric – from night-shifts and the bar-life underworld to a classic case of middle eastern superstition. I always make my music with dance and movement at the heart of it, I’ll describe the way a sound should be with the physical expression of it first and then reverse-imagine it into audio like: “this is what the dance move would look like”.
