Rayvon Owen is a pop/R&B singer from Richmond, VA!
Rayvon was a part of Season 14 of American Idol, and was a top 4 finalist. After his run on the show, he embarked on a 38-city tour as part of American Idols LIVE! While he had gained recognition, he felt like something was totally off. Rayvon felt like he was “living a lie.” After finding himself in a serious relationship with a man, Rayvon decided to come out through his own music.
On Valentine’s Day in 2015, Rayvon released the music video for his single “Can’t Fight It”, which was his first post-Idol single. While he unfortunately faced some negative backlash, “Can’t Fight It” raked in over a million views on YouTube.
Later in the year, Rayvon released his EP Air, and was crowned as the LA Music Award’s “Rising Star”. It’s no secret that Rayvon’s smooth vocals paired with upbeat soundscapes make for a fun listening experience! He has caught the attention from the likes of People Magazine, Huffington Post, USA Today, Billboard, Z100’s Elvis Duran, and so many more.
On April 3rd, Rayvon will be releasing his new EP, Las Virginia. It will be a look back on where he came from, and the growth that led him to be who he is now! Rayvon is known for keeping things authentic, and this EP will be no exception to that.
“It’s all about my internal yin and yang, growing up in the east but now living in the west, and the battle of who I was taught to be versus who I am becoming.” Rayvon also shares, “What happens in Las Virginia . . . ended up on this EP,” referencing a troubling romantic situation from his past. “I’m proud that I can freely sing about what I’ve been through now. All of the lyrics on my last EP seemed like they were about a girl . . . but they definitely weren’t.”
This weekend, Rayvon is giving fans a special taste of the EP with a brand new track called “Honesty”. If you pre-order/pre-save the EP, you’ll be able to turn it up whenever you’d like! Click here to do so on Apple Music.
Rayvon says, “In many ways, ‘Honesty’ sums up the entire concept of Las Virginia as an album: the dichotomy between where I’ve been and where I’m going, and how those two halves ultimately make me who I am right now, in this moment. It’s about honesty and dishonesty—with each other, but more importantly, within ourselves.”
Okay, I don’t know about you, but now I can barely wait for Las Virginia! Be sure to say hi to Rayvon on Instagram @rayvonowen – and we’ll see you on April 3rd!
