A Chat With DOUBLECAMP

DOUBLECAMP are an alt-pop duo from Nashville, Tennessee, comprised of Joe Neary and Jordan Burmeister. Their catalog consists of nothing but bright, feel-good songs that reflect their positive outlook!

Back in February, DOUBLECAMP released their latest single “Whenever You Call” – a bouncy, hypnotizing bop that I just can’t get enough of. Sooo, I got to catch up with the guys and learn about the making of “Whenever You Call”, how they’re staying busy during this unprecedented time, and more!

Since starting DOUBLECAMP, how would you say you’ve grown as artists?

We’ve learned to create music that inspires us and work with people who inspire us.  I think the whole idea behind this project is that there are no rules for what it needs to be or sound like. I think that’s important because it lets us just go into the creation process without limitations and truly express ourselves.  Also, to add onto the people who inspire us part, I think that it is so important to have people around who believe in you and fuel your best self.  Thats something that has really elevated this project.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?

Jon Bellion, Young The Giant, Andy Grammer, Chance the Rapper, Mac Miller, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus. The list goes on.  We made a playlist of tunes on our Spotify to show all the different songs and artists we are vibing on. Too many to list!

What has been one of your all-time favorite DOUBLECAMP moments?

Honestly, getting support from Spotify and seeing our names on some of the playlists with artists we look up to has been amazing. The fans that come from that have been awesome.  In addition to that, the team we work with has helped make this the most fun we’ve ever had creating music. Music for me has always been something I like to do with my friends, and I can say this team is like a family.

Your latest single “Whenever You Call” is super lively – I’m in love with it! How was it like creating this track?

Thank you first of all! This track means a lot to me because of it’s honesty. I think we are at a place today where mental health conversations are encouraged.  For me, I love to hear and artist say something real I can relate too. That’s when I can be like, okay, so this is normal and I’m not the only one who feels this way. Getting a phone call from someone who cares in a moment of loneliness is a reality I think a lot of people can relate too.
Then of course, you put it to some positive music because I don’t look at it as a sad message.  I look at it as hopeful. Sometimes we all just need somebody and that’s normal. Things can get better.

We’re in unprecedented times right now, and most of us are at home. How are you guys staying busy during this time?

We are currently writing a ton and actually are going to be releasing another song very soon. Other than that, hanging at home, playing board games, watching Netflix, playing with the dog and cat. Just trying keep busy and stay optimistic. It’s a crazy time right now.  Hope you’re doing well! Stay safe and wash your hands! 🙂
