Holander is a 23 year old singer/songwriter who isn’t letting the current circumstances slow down her creativity! The LA native has a reputation for making exciting alt pop tunes that will make you want to jump out of bed and live your best life. It’s fun being young, and Holander’s music truly captures that feeling. Don’t take my word for it though – check it out yourself!
I got to chat with Holander not too long ago about what she’s been up to while in self-isolation. There’s so many things to do, and one of the things she’s doing is making music! Recently, she released a song called “The Quarantine Love Song” – which is pretty relatable if you ask me!
Have fun reading our convo below ♡
Hey there! I know this is a crazy time in the world, so I really appreciate you willing to chat. How’s everything going?
Of course! Likewise. Things are alright! I’m using this time as an exercise to see how much positivity I can maintain with the tornado going on all around us.
So you released a quarantine anthem called “The Quarantine Love Song”. How was it like coming up with this track?
It was very organic actually— I was sitting around with my roommate, and we were getting pretty bored. I picked up a guitar and he picked up a ukulele. As we were messing with melodies, obviously quarantine was on my mind and I had an idea for this Quarantine Love Song. We wrote it pretty quickly, over the course of a few hours. It really was one of those moments of inspiration striking.
How did you get your start making music?
I grew up with a music room in my house, and both of my parents play guitar and are writers. We used to have family jam sessions in the living room. One day, when I was in 6th grade, my sister said “let’s go to our rooms, and not come out until we write a song.” Like, that was the activity for the day. We came out and shared our songs, and that’s how I started writing. Since then, I’ve written so many songs on guitar and piano all through middle & high school. When I was 18, I started an indie pop band where I wrote the songs, and played electric guitar as the front-woman. It was short-lived until I realized my tastes were changing; I was falling in love with pop music. From there, I started writing what you hear on Spotify now!
What is one of the biggest things you hope to achieve through your music?
I really want to inspire confidence in others. That has been my goal since the beginning of this project. I can listen to certain artists and sing along with them and feel like a bad bitch. There are even certain songs I used to listen to that would helped me get pumped going into a social situation, when I was struggling with social anxiety. That is what I want to give to people. I want to be there for them at 2am when they feel alone and can start to feel confident again. That bestie who pumps you up.
It feels like everything around us came to a screeching halt so quick. What are some of the ways you’re staying motivated and productive during this time?
I’ve re-discovered yoga! It helps me feel energized, focused, and happy. I also meditate & say gratitude in the mornings. I’ve turned to digital outlets like Tik Tok for content creation, and have continued to make art & talk to friends. I’ve also been doing some live stream shows on my Instagram!
Another thing that’s really been helping me is that when I feel like I’m getting upset or stressed, I think about others. I think about being positive for my friends and my fans, if I can’t do it for myself in that moment. 🙂
What’s your favorite quarantine snack?
This is really weird & funny, but I really like dipping bread slices into this chocolate hummus that I have and eating that haha!
What’s something you’re really looking forward to doing once we’re all allowed back outside?
Concerts, going dancing, and seeing my friends in big groups! Stay safe 💖
