She has also earned Grammy nominations for her contributions to Ella Mai’s self-titled album, and Kelly Clarkson’s Meaning of Life.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve listened to Rivers Run Dry within the past month. It slaps, and I recently got to chat with HARLOE about It!

Hey HARLOE. Thank you so much for your time and being down to chat! How’s everything going?

Everything is going great. These are definitely changing times but just trying to stay positive and hopeful!

Your new EP Rivers Run Dry is out now, and (of course) it rocks! How was the process of creating the EP like?

The process of creating the EP was really fluid, organic, and it really was a healing process for me to tell my story this way.

What’s your favorite song from the EP and why?

I think my favorite song would be “Crush On You” because it was the last song written for the EP, so it’s the most current state that I feel connected to. I just love the lyrics that love is never done and the kind of hopefulness of it.

Personally, I find Rivers Run Dry to be comforting especially at a time like this. What is something you hope folks will realize when they listen to the EP?

I really hope that people realize more of themselves, whether that’s that they’re healed or whether they’re in a transition. I just really hope that people realize more of who they are when they listen to the EP.

How did you get your start in music?

I got my start in music kinda early on, just playing piano as a little kid and always being around music – whether it would be listening to it live, or watching a lot of concert stuff as a kid. Then I posted videos on YouTube and started connecting with other musicians and getting in the studio. It kind of led me on this path!

You’ve gotten to work with some pretty cool artists like Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Charli XCX and many more. What are some of the most important things you’ve learned from these experiences?

Some of the most important things would be that you have to kind of trust the process, and every experience of every song leads to another eye opening event or song. So I think one of the most important that I’ve learned was to trust the process, let go, and have a little more fun with it. Dig deeper and be excited about doing that.

What’s been one of your favorite experiences as an artist?

Definitely getting the chance to play this new EP live when it came out in LA for a crowd of people that felt the music. It still gives me chills. It was so surreal to see it go from point A to point B to people and get to sing it live. That was so amazing.

Do you have any tips for someone who may be sitting at home right now and wants to start making music?

I would say wherever your inspiration leads you, just follow it! Whether it be connecting with somebody, sending that email to someone to collaborate, or sitting at your piano and free styling. Whatever is calling you, just do it because that will lead you to the next thing and that’s the journey!

What are some of the ways you’re staying busy (and motivated!) during these unprecedented times?

I am creating more. I think that’s the thing that keeps us creative people positive – creating and sharing and giving. Also doing your own thing aside from outward creativity, inward. Getting a little more quiet for me has been really helpful and just thinking about what is important to me and reaching out to my family and stuff like that.
