Just incase you didn’t know, Min Yoongi, aka Suga from BTS has a solo rap project called Agust D. In 2016, he released his first solo mixtape, Agust D. It was so raw and full of passion, and naturally, we wanted more. After four years and (a week full of teasing and guessing games on social media), Yoongi’s second mixtape D-2 has finally arrived!
As with almost anything any of the BTS members do, I needed a moment to take it all in. Even if us ARMYs can figure out something is coming, I’m never 100% mentally prepared. It’s been an hour and a half-ish since the mixtape dropped (at 2AM PST), and I still haven’t fully come down to earth yet.
So first, let’s talk about the title track “대취타” (Daechwita). Daechwita is a genre of traditional Korean military music featuring wind/percussion instruments. The song combines Daechwita with trap beats to create a sound I can only describe as epic. This is something that I just want to hit replay on countless times, and as for the music video? Come on. Take a guess…
I didn’t see this coming, oh lordy lord I absolutely DID NOT. This told an entire story, and it also reminded everyone that there’s no room on this earth for anyone who wants to speak down upon him.
I’m gonna apply that to me and my life too. I think we all should.
So I absolutely need to spend a large chunk of today reading the lyric translations, but I can feel so much anger in certain tracks, especially “What do you think?”
D-2 also sees appearances from RM, NiiHWA, MAX, and Kim Jong Wan. Listening to this whole thing is like an adventure. The majority of the songs take it a little slower than “Daechwita”, but all of the tracks stand out in their own special way. For example, “Strange” has this dark feel to it, and a piano riff adds to it. The icing on the cake is when RM comes in and says, “You think you got taste? Oh babe, how do you know? / I mean for God’s sake errything’s under control” AND I FELT THAT.
I raged, I pulled out my imaginary lighter, but most importantly, I felt like this was exactly what I needed to not just start off my day but give me peace of mind. So many emotions. So so so many. Wouldn’t you agree?
Check out D-2 if you haven’t already!
