The internet is life – am I right, or am I right?
If there’s one person who knows it, it’s this week’s Fresh Squeeze artist, Baby Queen! Baby Queen, aka Bella Latham, is a London-based pop artist who just released her debut single “Internet Religion”.
Raised in Durban, South Africa and spending her teen years in London, Baby Queen felt quite a bit of pressure trying to fit in – fueled by many of the materialistic obsessions that shape social media and influencer culture. So, she began to write songs based around her experiences.
Many of us can testify that the internet can be both a blessing and a curse! Social media, especially, can make us feel great at times – but it can also make us feel terrible. “Internet Religion” is a song about how social media can mold our opinions of ourselves.
She shared, “I hate the way that is so easy to control your identity online and you become so obsessed with who you are online and how many people are liking your pictures.”
Baby Queen has plans to release an EP later this year. “I want to make music that people can connect to so much that they feel like they don’t have to change,” she says. We are so ready for it!
