I can’t be the only person who completely forgot the summer is here. It’s already a struggle remembering what day of the week it is!
Indie singer/songwriter Simpson just released two tracks to help welcome our summers in on a positive note – the appropriately titled “Summer”, and “I Miss My Dawgs”.
“Summer” features bouncy guitar riffs and an overall sunny vibe that will leave you in a fantastic mood.
Simpson says, “‘Summer’ is so much more than a song about the summer. It’s about bottling, escaping nostalgia, being present, being flung into the afterthought of the future. It’s sarcastic, it’s cheeky, it kisses your forehead. Summer sees you, remembers you, and doesn’t forget you. Summer is what you were looking forward to that ended up letting you down, but you were so fucked on it exceeding expectations that you didn’t even realize it. Summer is a person, summer is a place, summer is a thing, summer is a feeling.”
Simpson released her debut single “Switch Lanes” in 2017, which was followed by “Radio Song” in 2018 and “I Got It!” in 2019. Her music has always been full of personality, as well as her performances! Simpson has toured with acts such as Crumb, Celeste, Superorganism, and Shabazz Palaces. Last month, she returned with a reinvented sound and a new single “Big Mistake” – and more new music is on the way!
In addition, Simpson also released “I Miss My Dawgs” yesterday, which also taps into those feelings of nostalgia. She shared, “‘I Miss My Dawgs’ is a song I made around the start of quarantine about being stuck inside and all of the chaos with COVID-19. With the turn of tragic and normalized events of police brutality being brought to the forefront, the song resonates with all of us in a new light.”
Simpson will be donating all streaming revenue to a variety of organizations and individual GoFundMe campaigns that support black LGBTQIA+ people around the country across the country!
