In the wee hours of Friday morning, BTS released the music video for their latest Japanese single, “Stay Gold.” Now that I’ve had a whole weekend to let everything marinate in my brain, let’s talk about it!
“Stay Gold” is a very uplifting song that encourages everyone to be brave and keep pushing forward, even though everything might seem like it’s falling apart around you. The guys can be found alone in their own dark, eerie settings. But once the chorus hits, everything brightens up! All seven guys are together having a great time.
As I watch this video, I can’t help but remember the current state of the world. Almost everything was locked down for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I haven’t seen my friends since before the lockdown. I don’t know when I’ll be able to go back to work, and I sure do miss it. At the rate things are moving, I fear that it will be later than next year. I was also supposed to see BTS on their “Map of the Soul Tour” in April, and those rescheduled dates are up in the air as well.
It just feels grim, you know? Just like those dark scenes in the video. But eventually, I think things will get better. Even on a personal level, things do get better… even if it’s for a small moment in time. The bright parts of the video represent those moments.
And then of course, towards the end of the video there’s tons of purple flowers and purple moss. V can be seen touching the purple moss, which (everyone… literally everyone…) came to the conclusion represents ARMY.
“Stay Gold” will be featured on BTS’ forthcoming Japanese album Map of the Soul 7: ~ The Journey ~, out on July 15. Go watch the “Stay Gold” music video if you haven’t done so already!
