It’s been a thrilling year for somegirlnamedanna. She made a grand entrance into the music world back in March with her debut single “hello i am,” and kept the momentum going with “kitchen table” and “california.” Now, somegirlnamedanna is entering the next chapter of her story with her debut EP twenty one, twenty two!
twenty one, twenty two features all three of somegirlnamedanna’s previously released singles, along with three new tracks – “seriously just stop,” “monday,” and “abandonment.”
Here’s what she had to say about the EP!
“twenty one, twenty two represents the journey that the last year has taken me on: the ups and downs, and the love and the heartbreak. To me, this ep has been about self-discovery and the path to self-acceptance. I think it’s easy to forget that people are not living the perfect lives portrayed on social media, and these songs were inspired by the real challenges and downswings that many of us face behind the screen. I want people to remember they are not alone in these times and I hope we continue to display our vulnerabilities and traits that make us human in popular culture.“
Each song on twenty one, twenty two tackles different feelings that not only somegirlnamedanna has experienced, but so many other young folks have as well. For example, “seriously just stop” deals with the frustrations of watching a former love interest trying way too hard. (Can you say EEK!?) The track also received the music video treatment. Check it out below!
Speaking on the video, somegirlnamedanna shared, “We shot the “seriously just stop” music video during quarantine, making sure to be safe with proper protocol. I wanted this music video to feel empowering and show my personality, to convey how I felt when I wrote the song. I had a lot of fun channeling that same attitude I wrote this song with during the video shoot too. I’m pretty sure my cat Bean (furry co-star) did the same.”
If there’s one thing to know about somegirlnamedanna, it’s the fact that she’s just being her! She was born and raised in a remote part of Minnesota, without social media or television. Her interest in music and the arts started at home, as she painted and listened to her mom play the piano. She wrote poetry and short stories at school, which eventually evolved into songwriting. She balanced college, work, and spending countless hours in the studio making her dreams come true.
Now, it’s time to celebrate! Check out twenty one, twenty two below.
