A Chat With Dempsey Hope

Dempsey Hope has been singing and performing since he was younger, but in 2009 he started posting covers on YouTube and quickly started building up his fanbase! He got involved with a local community based recording program in South Seattle, and went on to release his first original song “Game Time.”

In 2016, Dempsey decided to dive deeper into the music world, and two years later he began to work with Seattle-based producer Jake Crocker. Together, they created “Commitment Issues”, “3 Years”, “When I Wake Up”, and his most recent single “Time Flies.”

Dempsey recently signed with RCA Records, and has so much great music in store for everyone! To help you get to know Dempsey a little better, we got to chat about his love for music and some more things that you need to know about the rising star.

Dom Dodd

As a fun intro, can you share three facts that people probably might not know about you?

I won the National Championship with my Basketball team in High-School, I recorded my first song when I was 11 years old, and my favorite food is Chicken and Waffles.

So not too long ago, you released a new single called “Time Flies.” Can you tell us how it was like putting that together?

It was a really fun and fast process. My producer Jake Crocker and I made it together. The best part was interacting with the fans and seeing what years they resonated with the most and after the chorus was written it was smooth sailing from there. It was released in 3 days!

Time really does fly. What has been one of your favorite moments of 2020 so far?

My favorite moment of 2020 so far has been signing a life changing partnership with RCA, I couldn’t be more happy with my team, I can’t wait to share more new music.

What originally made you want to head into making music?

I come from a musical family, my Mom & Sister both play instruments, my dad has a deep appreciation and love for music and my brother probably had the biggest influence on my music taste growing up. I’ve always loved to sing along to any tune for as long as I could remember, before I could even speak full sentences. When I started to listen closer to music and look at aspects that were deeper than just the melody I was inspired to implement that into music of my own.

During these times, music has definitely been something we can all turn to for comfort! Is there anything in particular you’d want people to keep in mind while listening to your music?

I just want my passion for the music to resonate with anybody and everybody that really feels it. I would love to be able to inspire people and encourage them to pursue what they truly love. I feel so fortunate to be in a position where I may be able to impact people’s lives in a positive way, and I hope that I can continue to find ways to do that.

I know you’re also a pretty avid TikTok user, and the app continues to make its mark on the music world. Has TikTok influenced your creative process in any way?

Absolutely. TikTok has been incredibly helpful for me to really find out what my fans love about my sound. For a long time now, I’ve been doing live writing sessions and getting inspiration from my fans/followers, they are truly a part of my creative process.

Can you give us any hints of what we can expect from you next?

A lot of new music is coming on the horizon, I’ve been waiting to release it for a long time and I’m so hyped to share it with the world!

To wrap things up, if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fried Chicken for sure, to be more specific, Fried Chicken & Waffles, I could eat Roscoe’s every day!
