Katy Perry Discusses ‘Smile’ Music Video Muses On Third #SmileSunday Stream

Southern California is in the middle of a quite unforgiving heat wave. Things are also heating up in the KatyCat universe, because Katy Perry’s new album Smile is only TWELVE DAYS AWAY! That being said, Katy wanted to make sure today’s Smile Sunday livestream was special.

Of course, the previous streams were all very special. But today, viewers got a special little surprise. What was it? Keep reading to find out… and no, it wasn’t Orlando Bloom!

On Friday, the official music video for “Smile” was released, and it featured so many fun animated characters. Today, Katy revealed that the animations were inspired by the Precious Moments figurines she grew up with. She said, “We had a lot of them around my house and just like in church in general. They were like church mascots. So I was like, I want something like that with these BIIIG eyes, but not that.”

“I loved creating the characters with the director Matthew Cullen, even the little clown car characters,” Katy added. Fans can’t seem to get enough of the characters either, as the music video currently has over 5 million views on YouTube! But Katy also teased, “We’ve got more where that came from,” and “There might be a bit of a playable factor coming soon… if you’re into all of that.”

It wouldn’t be a Smile Sunday stream if Katy didn’t give everyone a little sneak peek of some tracks from Smile, right? Katy was asked about “Tucked,” which she hasn’t played on the streams yet. Before playing a snippet of “Tucked,” she dove into the meaning of the track.

“It is a song about tucking. No it’s not. Yes it is. It’s gonna be a song about whatever you want to make it to be about,” she teased. “‘Tucked’ is a song about having a naughty fantasy and keeping it tucked, and also being able to play with imagination whenever you want to. I don’t know about you, but my dreams are reeeaal and sometimes intense, and the power of the mind is just so incredible like… you can create anything you want in your mind. Which is also dangerous. But it’s amazing for creatives and for dreaming.”

My innocent mind doesn’t know what tucking is, but what I do know is that the song sounds amazing!

Katy was asked what was the oldest track on the album, and as it turns out, “Cry About It Later” and “Never Really Over” hold that title! She shared, “I was putting the finishing touches with ‘Never Really Over’ with Zedd in New Zealand, so maybe that one. Or ‘Cry About It Later’, because I was in Stockholm finishing that while I was on the Witness Tour. So those are the oldest songs, but they still reign true. They still deserve a spot on this one.”

Katy was also asked about what she thinks Smile would smell like, if it could have a scent. Personally, I feel like it would have a fresh lemon scent. But according to Katy, the album would smell, “Maybe like fresh laundry. Like the beginning of the day. Like newness. Like clearness, what you smell when you go outside and you’re on your way to school and it’s just clean for a second… until all hell breaks loose. Not freshly cut grass though.

This week’s edition of Smile Sundays concluded with a very special, intimate surprise! Katy announced that she was moving her laptop into another room, and fans ended up getting a mini tour of her baby room!

Everything about the room was way too cute, and I’m sure BabyKat will love it!Katy also showed off some baby outfits, including this adorable Eggo dress.

BabyKat will be here before we know it, and so will Smile! Pre-save and pre-order it here if you haven’t done so yet.
