The Fresh Squeeze – Muri

This week’s Fresh Squeeze artist is Muri!

Muri is a 21-year-old Danish DJ who just launched her debut single “Fallin'” into the universe. Growing up in Viborg, Muri found herself dancing from a young age as a way to express herself creatively – as well as release her energy!

When Muri was 16, she decided to dedicate her attention towards being creative and dancing. She made her way to LA not long after, and when she returned to Denmark, Muri bought herself a DJ deck to expand her creative horizons. After showing off her mixing skills on Instagram, Muri was contacted by a local venue owner who wanted her to DJ at an event. It was her very first DJ gig, and Muri hasn’t stepped away from the turntables since!

Muri says, “I started making music in order to express my creativity – and to show the world that women have an important role within the electronic genre. In the beginning, I did this by making my own set-mixes and implementing the sounds and vocals that I found interesting in relation to the forum I was in. It felt like a natural transition to go from dancing to DJ’ing, to now create, perform and release my own music.”

Now, Muri is indeed releasing music of her own! With her debut single “Fallin’,” Muri hopes listeners will feel encouraged to explore who they are and their potential – all while dancing!

RAPID FIRE QUESTIONS

What inspired you to transition from dancing to DJing?

I’ve always been curious about music. And after dancing to hip hop for many years, I just fell in love with house music. To me it is an amazing feeling to be able to make other people dance, that’s why I wanted to play music.

What has been one of your favorite experiences you’ve had so far as a DJ?

That must have been at a private event I did in Royal Arena, which is one of the biggest stages in Denmark.

During these unprecedented times, what has helped fuel your creativity?

I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by very talented co-producers and songwriters who helps keeping me creative. So we have actually been in the studio a lot.

What kind of impact do you hope to leave on the dance music world?

I hope to inspire women. Not only female artists but also producers and DJ’s in general. I really feel like we need more women who are not afraid of making themselves heard in what is a man’s world as for now.
