Hey you. Yes, YOU! Throughout the very long year that has been 2020, you’ve probably come to realize that music is a form of communication. Here and there, we can receive messages about the state of the world, being yourself, dealing with out of control exes, and so much more.
Anyways, BENEE has a huge message for the world today! Her debut album Hey u x has just arrived. Produced by longtime collaborator Josh Fountain, Hey u x is a genre-warping adventure made just for you. BENEE has also invited some very special guests along for the ride, including Lily Allen, Grimes, Flo Milli, Gus Dapperton, Mallrat, Kenny Beats, Bakar, and Muroki.
If this doesn’t already sound like one of the coolest debut projects ever, it gets even better! BENEE also dropped the music video for her new single “Kool,” which was written about people she felt were just cool without even trying. We all know one or two of them, and (it’s a personality trait I so wish I had.) BENEE teamed up with The Sims 4 for the clip, and we get to see her be transformed into a “Sim” – frequently changing outfits, roaming around different rooms, and controlling herself remotely.
To celebrate the release of Hey u x, BENEE will be performing “Happen To Me” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday, November 16th on CBS. She’ll also be hosting a pop-up shop and immersive album experience in Aukland, NZ.
This year has moved at anything but a snail’s pace for BENEE. Her viral hit “Supalonely” with Gus Dapperton received Platinum certification in the US, as well as seven other countries including Australia and New Zealand. In June, she was named MTV’s PUSH Artist of the month, and earned herself nominations at this years MTV VMAs, MTV EMAs, E! People’s Choice Awards, and New Zealand’s Aotearoa Music Awards.
BENEE simply says, “I’m writing music for one human listening to the music. I want them to feel as connected as they can to my mind. I called it ‘Hey u x’ like a message that you send to a friend.”
Hey u x is a message you’ll surely want to signal boost. Tune in below!
