The past few months have been an opportunity for many to embark on new adventures, and this couldn’t be more true for Joe P!
Joe (P)arella was the lead singer of the alt-rock band Deal Casino, creating explosive tunes that had listeners hooked for just about seven years. At the start of the pandemic however, Deal Casino decided to head off into different directions. It was a peaceful split, but this absolutely wasn’t going to tear Parella away from making music. In fact, it was the start of an exciting solo venture.
Continuing to create music in his basement studio, Parella decided to name his new project “Joe P.” He also found a new home on TikTok, sharing his new songs with a brand new audience. In only a matter of weeks, Joe P went from having 7k followers on the platform to nearly 100k!
After releasing “Leaves” last month, it was time for Joe P to show the world some more of what he had in store. His new single “Middle Class Dream” arrived on November 20, and came together over the course of thirty minutes.
That’s wild.
Joe P spilled, “This song presented itself to me around 4am in my bedroom studio in Asbury Park, New Jersey right as I was about to call it a night after being unsuccessful in coming up with any good ideas. I hit a bass note on a synth while a drone was playing on a cassette loop and immediately wrote the intro bass line. The rest of the song was written within the next half hour besides the electric toothbrush I tracked the following morning that can be heard at the very end of the track. The song itself is quite bittersweet in the sense that it has to do with knowing someone is better off without you while still feeling a need or desire to be able to experience life with them or at least from a far. You are very aware of reality but the natural instincts that come with loving someone keep pulling you away from it.”
