It’s been a way more than okay year for the 17-year-old singer from Calgary. Tate McRae rolled out tons of singles this year, including “you broke me first,” which currently sits at over 500 million streams worldwide. The track led Tate to the Top 5 rankings on Billboard’s Emerging Artist chart, and a spot on the Hot 100.
If that isn’t enough, Tate McRae was also featured on Forbes 30 Under 30 List for 2021, making her the youngest artist on the list. Tate made further appearances on Pandora’s Artist To Watch 2021 list, and on Billboard‘s 21 Under 21 One’s To Watch list. It’s been banger after banger from Tate, and “r u ok” will carry us into 2021 where we can expect even more new music from here.
“‘r u ok’ is a song that I never thought I’d write,” she confesses. “It has a very sassy and feisty tone, which made it a challenge to dive into that perspective – as I think I’m quite the opposite. I love that in this song there is a lot of emotional meaning behind the lyrics, with very trappy, bright and contrasting production at the same time.”
