Uncertain times can often lead to uncertain feelings. It’s just the way stuff goes, you know? Talking about these feelings can be a great way to cope, and Charlotte Lawrence is singing about her own in her new single “Talk You Down.”

Perhaps not everything has gone as originally planned for Charlotte, but the 20-year-old musician found a way to make things work. Back in 2017, Charlotte released her debut EP Young, which stacked up millions of streams. However, Charlotte is no longer a teen, and life has presented itself with so many new experiences for her.

Throughout 2020, Charlotte took time to truly dig deep and create songs that reflect her heart’s true desires. She rediscovered her love for instrumentation over electronic beats, and started writing out her own riffs and melodies. After all, Charlotte did start playing the piano when she was five years old, and the guitar at 13! As an artist who strives to be as open as possible in her music, it was time for her to do that more than ever.

Instead of letting her thoughts consume her, Charlotte would rather write about them. “I’m somebody that if I go through something, I need to write about it,” she admits. “I can’t just let it live. I don’t like to talk about it to people. I don’t like to burden someone with issues or talk about a boy for hours. I would rather write it the f**k out, get it out.”

“Everyone deals with their emotions in different ways and we’ve all been dealing with so many different types of emotions in the last year,” Charlotte says of “Talk You Down.” “I wanted to be a part of a song about anxiety and how I deal with it. Talking with someone about how you feel is a perfect way to get through any emotional experience.”

In an era when we really don’t know what tomorrow will bring, “Talk You Down” feels incredibly fitting. Beyond the surface level meaning, the track’s bright electro-pop beat will provide a lasting moment of relief from the stress of this world.
