Orla Gartland Sings Her Truth With ‘More Like You’

Karina Barberis

Have you ever wished you could be someone other than yourself? If only it was possible, and if only people were just a little more understanding. Comparing yourself to someone else can be quite a common habit, and one that can be hard to break. But today, Orla Gartland packed all those way-too-relatable feelings into her new single “More Like You“!

Orla Gartland was born and raised in Dublin, and started writing music when she was 14. Although the local pubs wouldn’t let her perform due to her age, Orla was able to take to the internet to showcase her talent. Once Orla finished school, she headed out on tour and eventually moved to London to focus on her music.

Back in October, Orla released her previous single “Pretending,” a song about being tired of having to feel the need to be someone you’re not. With the release of “More Like You,” it’s safe to say Orla Gartland is that artist you can turn to when you need music that amplifies your feelings and can provide you some reassurance. We’re all in this together!

Orla spills, “Everyone compares themselves to other people right? If you don’t, tell me your secret. ‘More Like You’ was born from a petty friend jealousy I have for my best friend’s other best friend. She’s someone who I only ever heard good things about, someone I wanted to hate until I met her and – of course – I didn’t. I loved her. When you don’t have much access to someone it’s easy to put them on a pedestal and forget that they have their own layered and complex life, you only see perfection. I became obsessed. I wanted to sing like her, I wanted to dress like her, I wanted to swap bodies with her Freaky-Friday style. So ‘More Like You’ is another song about identity, about yearning to switch lives with someone who makes it all look easy.”

More music from Orla is on the horizon, and I can hardly wait! For now, stream “More Like You” below.
