Maybe it was just me, or maybe it feels like a huge weight was lifted from everyone’s shoulders today. Why? Because we got ourselves a brand new Commander in Chief!
Okay yeah, it totally wasn’t just me. As we all know, today marked a brand new chapter in America’s history. Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, and Kamala Harris was sworn in as the nation’s first female Vice President… and she’s a woman of color!
On Wednesday evening, some of music’s biggest names came together for President Biden and Vice President Harris’ Celebrating America special. It was a night full of moving performances, touching tributes to frontline workers, and most importantly, messages of hope for the nation.
As the day’s celebrations came to a conclusion, a fireworks show awaited, along with a performance from Katy Perry! Is it ever truly an official fireworks show without “Firework” playing at some point in the presentation? The song is such a staple for festivities, and it was only fitting to have Katy sing it herself in front of the Washington Monument.
For years, Katy has been very vocal about her desire to see a positive change in the nation’s leadership. Whether it was by encouraging her fans to get out and vote, or showing love to the Biden-Harris campaign, it’s safe to say that Katy has been waiting eagerly for this day. Her desire to see change has even been reflected in some of her music. (Chained To The Rhythm, anyone? Next month, the song will be turning four!) Keeping all of this in mind, it made Katy’s Celebrating America performance even more fitting.
And we just love to see it.
Last week, Katy announced a massive collaboration with The Pokémon Company for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary. She spilled, “Pokémon has been a constant in my life from playing the original video games on my Game Boy, to trading Pokémon TCG cards at lunch, to the adventures of catching Pokémon on the street with Pokémon GO. I’ve even visited the Pokémon Café in Japan while on tour! It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world.”
To commemorate the occasion, we’ll be hearing some new tunes from Katy very soon. Stay tuned!
