With a new year, Birdy is ready to welcome in a brand new era! Today, the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter dropped her new single “Surrender,” which is the first track from her forthcoming album Young Heart.
It’s been a moment since Birdy released her last studio album Beautiful Lies. Six years, to be exact. Since then, she’s taken some time to rediscover who she is not only as an artist, but as a human. She made a brief move to LA, and songs for her new project began to flow slowly but surely. LA is a city where it’s quite easy to feel small in, so Birdy captured that energy and used it to her advantage.
It was soon time for another change of scenery, so Birdy temporarily relocated to Nashville and found even more inspiration in the atmosphere. “Writing there is a completely different experience because everyone is a musician themselves,” she shares. “They’re all players and real storytellers – so they really understood me.”
Young Heart is a very personal project for Birdy… like “protect this at all costs” personal. In contrast to Beautiful Lies, Young Heart offers a much more stripped back sound, and an unfiltered look into who she is now. “My last record was a lot more theatrical,” she describes. “There was a lot going on, it was a big production. Whereas this is quite stripped back – anything that didn’t need to be there, isn’t.”
