Carmen DeLeon should already be on your radar for 2021, period. But if she isn’t, this will certainly change today with her new single “Cafécito.”
The 19-year-old singer from Miami made her debut last year with “Volverás,” which received widespread critical acclaim. A few months later, she went on to release “Juegas,” a collaboration with Colombia’s FEID and produced by Tainy!
“Cafécito” allows Carmen to reflect upon many memories made with a loved one that is missed, and will perhaps lead you to do the exact same. She shares, “My specific inspiration was the loss of my grandfathers. All the things I mention in the song – coffee, toast with jam, enjoying each new day with the people they loved – those were the things that were special to them. But this song is an anthem for anyone who has experienced loss. My hope is that you sense the common emotion and know that we’re all grieving together.”
Sometimes, the moments and things that can seem small and oh too common for one person can be huge for others. I certainly miss making gorditas with my grandma when I was younger, and I wish I could’ve spent more time with her doing just that. Let this song encourage you even further to carry on the traditions of your loved ones!
