Let’s take it back to the 90’s… or more specifically, 1999.
What was I doing as a one year old in 1999? Pooping in diapers, riding a swing my parents set up for me, and certainly not stressing over taxes, school, or anything like that.
Canadian indie-pop quartet Valley is hoping to bring some of those worry-free vibes to the world today with their new single “Like 1999.” Crafted with a truly nostalgic pop melody, “Like 1999” addresses many common sentiments of today and the desire to go back to more simple times.
Although, there’s nothing retro about the way the song came together. While in a quarantine writing session, Valley created a TikTok video with the chorus of what is now “Like 1999.” In only a matter of days, the clip received over 700,000 views and over 100,000 likes. Valley then announced that the full song would be released if the video hit the one million view mark, and the rest is history!
Valley’s connection with their fans is stronger than Gorilla Glue. Comprised of Rob Laska, Karah James, Mickey Brandolino, and Alex DiMauro, Valley is devoted to making tunes that will bring hope to listeners and creating a space in the music world where everyone feels welcome. “Like 1999” follows their sophomore EP sucks to see you doing better, which yielded the viral hit “hiccup.” The group received a 2020 JUNO Award Nomination, has supported Lennon Stella and The Band Camino on tour, and have raked in almost 71 million global streams on Spotify.
There’s no doubt 2021 will be a huge year for Valley – but for now, it’s time to go back to 1999. Stream “Like 1999” below!
