Words are so full of meaning, and often times we assign those meanings ourselves. Different things in life have different meanings to all of us too, obviously. Obviouslyyyy. Your experiences, your struggles, your passions, your culture, religion, sexuality, age… they all help shape these definitions, which ultimately help shape your worldview.
Charlotte Cardin hopes to let you experience the world from her point of view through her music, and today you’ll have yet another chance to do so with her new single “Meaningless.”
Growing up in Montreal, Charlotte Cardin spent her childhood learning to play the piano and taking vocal lessons. As a teen, Charlotte started to write her own songs for fun. She never really saw herself turning music into a career, but things just happened to play out that way!
Now, Charlotte is gearing up to release her debut album Phoenix, full of emotional tracks just like “Meaningless.” In the song, Charlotte explores the things that make us feel alive in a world that can seem quite superficial. Why must our vices make us feel so good?
Shaping this album has yielded an even greater opportunity for self-discovery from Charlotte. She says, “I have always been torn between my true desires and what I chose to present to the world. This conflict of will has gotten me to feel very empty at a young age and is still something I struggle with. Making this album took two years, because I started the writing process trying to keep control over what I wanted to show. It eventually became obvious, though, that I needed to embrace accessing those true impulses for my music (and my life) to make any sense whatsoever. The more I realized certain things about myself in the process, the angrier I got for not understanding them earlier. This conflicting loop of shame versus growth gave birth to ‘Phoenix.’”
