Austin Wolfe, aka OSTON, is no stranger to crafting songs that can speak to an entire generation. After competing in Season 13 of American Idol, OSTON moved to Chicago, where she started working with a crew of collaborators. Her debut EP Sitting at the Kids Table arrived in the fall of 2019, filled with tracks that speak a common truth. For example, the project’s finale “Nobody Cares” is all about the pressures to constantly create a perfect narrative for social media.
OSTON is just keeping it real, and she’s back at it again today with her new single “Lie About You.”
Many artists have a vault full of songs that never end up getting released. Some might have the chance of being heard by the world through snippets on TikTok, and some end up being too relatable to hold back any longer. Basically, that’s how “Lie About You” rose above the surface.
OSTON says, “I was reading people’s comments on TikTok, and a lot of them were saying I captured everything they had been experiencing in the lyrics. People shared their stories of being in different types of abusive relationships, saying the song helped them heal. Writing this song helped me heal as well, so if releasing it can help even more people out there, then what better song to set the stage for the next era of my life in music?”
“Lie About You” is the lead single off OSTON’s upcoming sophomore project Am I Talking Too Much?, out later this year!
“For years I was made to believe that I didn’t have a direction,” OSTON confessed. “I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted to say. I was being led to fit a certain mold, and it wasn’t until last year that I ended up breaking out from that. When it came time to decide what songs to include on this EP, I gravitated towards songs that truly represented me as an artist and person entering this new, empowered chapter of my life.”
