Dean Lewis Returns With New Single ‘Falling Up’

One of my favorite things about Dean Lewis has always been the fact that so much emotion can be felt in every single word he sings. He packs so much vulnerability into all of his songs, and his new single “Falling Up” is no exception!

Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder if we’d be so much more happier in life if we were in a different position. This thought process was the foundation of “Falling Up.” Dean spilled, “I always thought I would be happy when I finished school or when I passed an exam, or I got a job or a promotion or if I went travelling and then I was like – ‘ooh, now I have a record deal, what if I have a big song? Then, I had a big song, and I was on the road for three years and when I stopped, I realised it had all passed me by and I was actually less present and more anxious and stressed than ever. I looked back on my life and at all of these points along the way and I realised that I’ve never felt any better, it’s always been onto the next thing, always moving.”

After watching a live DVD of Oasis in 2005, Dean Lewis found the inspiration to begin writing his own music. Before he released any of it, Dean was working as a sound engineer. He also uploaded a couple of videos onto YouTube, and was eventually signed with a publishing company thanks to some help from a friend. Writing songs for other artists didn’t end up being the most fulfilling experience for Dean, but excitement was certainly on the horizon. In 2016, Dean signed a deal with Island Records, and released his debut single “Waves” that same year.

But in 2019, the Australian singer/songwriter saw worldwide success with the release of A Place We Know. The album debuted at #18 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has received a Gold RIAA Certification. The lead single “Be Alright” has accumulated over 4.8 billion global streams, and also went 2x Platinum in the United States. Back home, “Be Alright” received 10x Platinum certification by the ARIA, and the music video took the prize for Best Video at the 2018 ARIA Music Awards.

In 2019, Dean Lewis also teamed up with Martin Garrix for “Used To Love.”
