Afgan & Jackson Wang Get Lost In The Music With ‘M.I.A’

Jackson Wang and Afgan made a song together called “M.I.A,” but make no mistake here – love, vulnerability, and solid gold pipes are in action right in front of us with this one.

Indonesian singer/songwriter Afgan grew up listening to legends such as Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston. While he never had any formal vocal training, Afgan found music as a huge confidence booster. Back in 2007, Afgan and his friends went to an instant recording studio to record a karaoke CD. What Afgan didn’t realize though, is that he’d be getting offered a record deal thanks to that trip!

Afgan’s debut album Confession No. 1 was released the following year, and he’s released four more LPs since then. He has also branched out into acting, and has performed for sold out crowds all throughout Southeast Asia. With just one listen to Afgan’s voice, you’ll be sold – and quite frankly, Afgan was also sold on “M.I.A” pretty quickly too!

“My producer, Tha Aristocrats, were showing me a selection of beats, and the intro of “M.I.A.” came across and it instantly felt like my sound,” Afgan explains. “It’s a feel-good song and I think at this time in the world, we need more songs like this.

Being able to team up with Jackson Wang was a dream come true for Afgan. He spilled, “I’m a big fan of his, he really inspired me as an Asian artist to step up my game. I love how organic the collaboration came about; we met backstage at an event in Seoul back in 2019 and we had a conversation about the possibility of us working together. I sent him over ‘M.I.A.’ and he loved it. I hope that one day we get to perform this song together. The MV shoot was so much fun, we got to play out fantasies and we showed a more seductive side in this video, which is something I’ve never done before.”

Jackson Wang has been cranking out some killer solo projects lately, and “M.I.A” is no exception. He says, “Afgan and I met in Korea and then we linked and we talked about stuff on the phone. It was a very natural conversation, we thought it would be interesting and fun to make music together and Afgan is such a great artist, he’s dope. After hearing the final version of M.I.A, I personally think it’s perfect and very smooth, that everyone should listen.”
