The time we spend with one another is very precious, just like a baby deer bonding with its mom. There’s no doubt that BAEKHYUN has cherished the past (just about!) ten years with EXO, and all of those who have supported him all throughout his journey as an artist. As he enters his 30s, he hopes to show his sonic growth and provide us all with a new level of comfort through his music. And guess what? BAEKHYUN is wasting absolutely zero time doing so with the release of his new mini album Bambi.

First things first, it’s always important to set the scene. Bambi appropriately starts off with “Love Scene,” a mid-tempo R&B track that gently taps on the feeling of falling in love. One might even say it feels like a movie, but it’s safe to say that it’s easy on the ears. This is exactly what BAEKHYUN was aiming for too! In a press conference for the album, he mentioned his desire to make music that is “more relaxing and comforting to those who listen,” and “music that people can really focus on the lyrics and feel the emotions to.”

“Bambi” will surely leave one feeling a rush of emotions. The song finds BAEKHYUN approaching love in a more mature manner, yet still comparing it to a fairy tale. The word bambi means night rain in Korean, but of course, BAEKHYUN also had the character in mind. His variation in pronunciation and tone will make listeners feel the difference between the two, but you’ll also be able to see the feeling come to life in the music video!

Right off the bat, BAEKHYUN had plenty of ideas in mind for the music video. Rather than just showing himself singing, he wanted to enhance the story line the song had already put in place. He explained, “I wanted there to be scenes in the rain, and a lot of staff were worried because it was still a bit cold back then, but I wanted to make it happen. Even when editing the MV, I selected the cuts/scenes that I wanted to include because I wanted to show what I had been visualizing for this track, and what I had in mind.”

BAEKHYUN also considered his outfit concept as a crucial element to the music video. A natural, yet stylish look was the goal, complete with a fedora!

The twisting tale of love continues to be told with “All I Got,” “Privacy,” and “Cry For Love.” “All I Got” focuses on love that unfolds over time, packed with high notes that complete a classic R&B vibe. Often times, there’s a beauty behind being able to keep certain things a secret. “Privacy” focuses on wanting to keep a side of yourself just between you and your lover. But love can hurt too, and “Cry For Love” zooms in on that aspect of a relationship. It’s the only breakup song on the album, and makes great use of ad libs.

When putting Bambi together, BAEKHYUN found himself focusing on the vocal aspects more than ever.  He mentioned, “For my solo albums, I wanted to focus on new genres, challenge myself, and improve along the way.” Bambi also features a familiar tune, which happens to be “Amusement Park“! The track was released last year, but BAEKHYUN felt like it would be a great addition to the album.

But most importantly, BAEKHYUN hopes that Bambi can provide comfort to all who listen in. Besides surface level sonic comfort, EXO-Ls should have peace of mind knowing BAEKHYUN put his best foot forward with Bambi. It’s something he’s proud of, and something made just for you! “I really wanted to show the heart I have for all our fans,” he said, “which is why I’ve worked hard with all these collaborations and tracks. Fans are my driving force. And I hope with all these, they’ll look forward to when I come back from the army as well.”

Until then, Bambi will be on full blast. As it should.
