REI AMI is here to remind you of one thing today – you just gotta do you, and if others don’t like it… well, that’s on them!
And surely, REI AMI has been doing her. Born in South Korea and raised in Maryland, REI AMI has decided to break every mold she felt her music needed to fit into. Growing up, REI AMI listened to quite a bit of R&B, which you could consider the starting point of her sonic journey. She also grew up watching Sailor Moon, and her stage name happens to be a combination of two characters from the series who ultimately reflect her duality. REI represents her softer side, and AMI represents her ferocious side. Isn’t that cool?!
So in 2019, REI AMI decided to shoot her shot. She released “MAKE IT MINE,” followed by “SNOWCONE” and “DICTATOR.” Those who were eagerly awaiting more were in luck, because in 2020 REI AMI returned with “RUNAWAY” and a massive co-sign from FINNEAS. Her sound continued to grow larger than life, and she decided to start out her 2021 by releasing “do it right,” a collaboration with Aminé.
Being nothing less than a boss, REI AMI is hoping to help remind you of all that you’re capable of doing with her new single “THAT’S ON YOU!” It’s a song all about recognizing and reclaiming the power naysayers may have tried to snatch from you. REI AMI elaborated, “It’s about being yourself to the fullest extent and if others don’t like it, then that’s their problem. I exist for myself and myself only. I refuse to dull myself down to make others comfortable. So if you don’t like me, baby that’s on you.”
