Tassia Zappia is making sure your first impression of her music is a spicy one. Although her debut single is titled “You Don’t Want Me,” you’ll surely want to listen to it over and over again!
Growing up, Tassia Zappia developed a strong appreciation for legends such as Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, and Frank Sinatra. Little did she know, she’d soon begin creating her own musical legacy. At the age of twelve, Tassia took up songwriting, although she also felt slightly out of place in the process. Other kids her age would be playing outdoors, while she’d be in her bedroom writing about her emotions. There were moments when Tassia wondered if her dreams would ever come true, and at one point, she was even met with conflicting emotions from her parents.
Regardless, Tassia kept working towards perfecting her craft. In 2019, she decided to take a trip to LA to attend a music camp. Unfortunately, things didn’t exactly play out the way Tassia and other attendees thought they would. Many empty promises were made by the organizers – ranging from lodging accommodations, to exclusive experiences.
“They told me I’d have a private chef and my own room in Post Malone’s house,” Tassia recalled. “They promised songwriting sessionsand red carpet events. It was a big shit show though. I didn’t even have my own bed. I had to share a blowup mattress with another girl. NO chef, NO sessions, and we were barely allowed to leave the house! One girl—who was only 15-years-old—told me her mom sold a ring so she could go on the trip. We discovered we were on a massive scam trip.”
Even though the program turned out to be a total fiasco, there was an up side. Hit songwriter Heidi Rojas (Little Mix, Cheryl Cole) swung by one day, and Tassia had the chance to sing for her. Heidi was absolutely blown away, and decided to take Tassia under her wing. When Tassia returned to LA, she was booked and busy, attending daily sessions. She also signed a deal with Republic Records, and pieced together “You Don’t Want Me.”
“I wrote the song about the first guy I tripped hard on,” Tassia shares. “It’s just so real, I felt those lyrics. When you’re completely and utterly in love but this person doesn’t want you, there’s nothing worse. Musically, we dove into my roots and merged those with a modern vibe to mix two worlds together.”
Overflowing with soul and personality, “You Don’t Want Me” is a very warm welcome into Tassia’s world. She hopes to reel you in by the heart, and help tell your stories through her music. You’ll quickly find yourself wanting more of Tassia, and sure enough, Tassia has plenty in store for you!
