Well, it’s official! BTS will be dropping their new single “Butter” on May 21st at 1PM KST/12AM EST.
Around 11PM KST on April 26, a cute yet cryptic live countdown video aired on BTS’ official YouTube channel. For an hour, a yellow screen with a slowly melting cube of butter filled the screens of ARMYs worldwide. The web was sizzling, as ARMYs shared theories of what the countdown could be leading up to!
(I couldn’t believe I was watching a cube of butter with the BTS logo melt at 7AM. But then and again, I’ve done plenty of things in the name of BTS that non-ARMYs might find bizarre. Part of me had a feeling this would be a countdown to a single announcement, but another part of me didn’t want to get my hopes up too high.)
Watching butter take an entire hour to melt was entertaining, and so was watching the reactions and speculations of other ARMYs unfold!

Over the past week, things have surely been heating up for BTS and ARMYs. The band was named Louis Vuitton’s newest House Ambassadors, and an exciting partnership with McDonald’s was also announced! That being said, the announcement of “Butter” was very well-timed.
So, how am I feeling? Excited, but that’s a huge understatement. “Butter” will be BTS’ second English single, and has been described as “smooth” and “charismatic.” One can be sure that this song will be the perfect summer treat, but more importantly, this will be another cultural reset.
