goodboy noah has something ‘nice’ in store for you!

Stefanie Moser

For those who hate having to keep certain things a secret, it sure does feel nice when the time comes for you to let the cat out of the bag. Today is that day for goodboy noah, because his debut EP nice has officially arrived!

goodboy noah has one goal as an artist, and it’s to give you (and ultimately himself) a sense of joy by creating music that is uniquely his. After releasing three flavorful singles this year, the Toronto native is ready to introduce two additional tracks and package them all together with nice. (Of course, there’s an imaginary bow on the top.)

Noah also linked up with some of his favorite collaborators for the project, including Micah Gordon (Cautious Clay, Neon Trees), Dan Henig (ZAYN, Noah Cyrus, Chelsea Cutler), Jake Torrey (BTS, Justin Bieber, John Legend) and Alex Sacco (Peach Tree Rascals, Conor Matthews). Get ready to raise your glass to the occasion, and have some of Noah’s very nice tea poured in it!

What led you to name your EP nice?
Well I didn’t know what to name it and was struggling to come up with something for a while. I sent my mom the EP and asked her what she thought of it. She said, “it’s nice sweetie.” And I was like boom! That’s it. It’s called nice.

If you could use different foods to describe the songs on nice, what would they be?
‘tie down” is a gouda based fondue. ‘dial tone’ is a cheddar based grilled cheese with all the fixins. Tomato, avocado, and a nice aioli. ‘uptight’  is a 4 cheese based mac n cheese. You got your provolone, your muenster, your pecorino, and your aged Virginia cheddar. ‘dumb’  is a deep fried mozzarella stick with a marinara sauce. ‘love u down’  is definitely dessert. So that’s gonna be a New York style double baked cheese cake.

Did the pandemic pose any challenges for you when working on nice?
It definitely cut down on in person sessions, but I’m lucky in that my main collaborators are also my best friends, so they were pretty much in my bubble the whole time. Also, I do a lot of recording from home, so I was able to stay productive.

What was one of the nicest moments of the whole process of creating the EP? (Besides finishing it, of course!)
During one of the sessions, we bet my friend Dan that he couldn’t eat a whole 2 pound brick of cheese. He tried and failed, as 2 pounds is entirely too much cheese for 1 man. But it was a total pleasure watching him attempt it.

“dial tone” was inspired by a DM to Beyonce that never got opened. If you could tell her about this project, what do you think you’d say to quickly grab her attention?
I’d probably say that I lost my credit card and need some money to buy a plane ticket to come perform in her hometown and ask if she can send me the money. That’s how she first messaged me from her second Instagram account, so I’m assuming she would understand. Then I’d play her the EP when I got there.

What’s something you hope listeners will take away from nice?
I hope that people like it and share it with their friends and family. And if they don’t like it, they should share it with their enemies, so they can also suffer. But really I just hope they like it enough to be excited for everything that’s coming next.

Let’s throw a party, shall we? Listen to nice below!
