When you feel like you’re a universe away from someone you care about, sometimes the only thing you might feel like doing is screaming into a void. (Or maybe, jumping into a black hole. Don’t do that though. 10/10 would not recommend.)
A much safer alternative is to just space out in your bedroom while listening to Conan Gray’s new single “Astronomy.” After having a momentous 2020 with his debut album Kid Krow, Conan Gray is ready to take his music career to the next level this year. He kicked off 2021 by releasing “Overdrive,” and “Astronomy” should assure everyone that he’s on the right track!
’”Astronomy’ is about that slow, painful, often denial inducing process of growing apart from somebody,” Conan says. “That moment when all of a sudden you look at that person you’ve loved for years and realize you no longer know them. That you two exist on two different worlds now. I find the worst heartbreaks happen slowly. No blowout fight and slamming doors and showing up on doorsteps while it’s raining. Just a gradual decaying of love with nothing left to do to stop it from slipping away. There’s no explanation, nobody to blame. That hurts the most.”
“Astronomy” just feels like one of those songs that would be perfect for a mission to mars. Of course, you’d need to play “Space Oddity,” but what comes next after that song ends? “Astronomy” sounds about right. As you drift away relatively slowly in outer space and see Earth becoming smaller in the distance, the charming melodies from this song would make everything a billion times more epic.
Completely un-ironically, Conan Gray has created a new song to add to my “studying for my astronomy class” playlist. Listen below and do the same!
He did that.™
Okay, he REALLY did that.
