In the real world, what happens if we get caught driving on the wrong side of the road? What about if we just suddenly decided to go 70 MPH in a 25 zone? We’re going to get a ticket, there’s no doubt about it. Not only would we be breaking the rules, but we’d be putting others (and maybe even ourselves) in danger!
If respect is indeed a two way street, there’s no need for anyone to come into your lane and attempt to cause a head-on collision. You have to lay down the law, and you certainly have to enforce it… or else you’ll end up feeling drained.
And if you need a fabulous song to blast while you’re (metaphorically and literally) driving around, ALITA has you covered with “It Takes Two.” Through her indie pop bops such as “Not Your Mother” and “Human Nature,” ALITA has been empowering her listeners to be honest with themselves. “It Takes Two” follows this theme, and encourages listeners to be observant about their personal relationship dynamics.
ALITA spilled, “‘It Takes Two’ is a coming of age song at its core. It’s about recognizing that in every relationship, there are always two people participating and deciding to give it their time and energy. I took inspiration from my college relationship that left me feeling empty and alone and resentful. For so long I was so angry about the way it ended, and I really pigeon-holed myself into this victim mindset. That made me even more miserable and unable to take responsibility for my own part in the chaos. Over the last few years, I’ve gotten a little smarter and more self-aware, and that’s helped me realize how much I allowed that toxicity to exist in my life. It’s not to make excuses for other people’s poor behavior, but it’s a reflection on my own participation in people and situations that have hurt me. I’m really proud of ‘It Takes Two’ because it’s a song that was written and finished quickly and effortlessly, and it takes a look at the common theme of a break-up from a little wider angle. I hope it encourages people to look at their own relationships and what they participate in from a different perspective.”
