Move over Ash Ketchum, there’s a new Pokémon trainer on the block named Katy Perry!
In honor of Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary celebration, Katy Perry just released her new single “Electric.” The vibrant, uplifting track is all about not letting anything stop you from pursuing your dreams, and celebrating the journey! It’s everything you’d expect from Katy Perry – a fun, youthful vibe with a positive message anyone can resonate with.
Creating a song to celebrate a quarter of a century of Pokémon was something that certainly resonated with Katy. She grew up playing the original Pokémon video games on her Game Boy, and her love for the franchise hasn’t faded one bit! “Electric” will be featured on Pokémon 25: The Album, along with songs from J Balvin, Post Malone, and many more power players in the music scene. Keep an eye out for it this fall via Capitol Records!
Katy spilled, “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”
This week has been full of moves with high power and 100% accuracy from Katy. Not only has she released a brand new song (and some super cute merch to go along with it!), but she also announced her brand new residency at The Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas. Katy Perry: PLAY opens on December 29, and tickets go on sale to the general public Monday, May 24 at 10AM. It’s yet another cause for celebration, and something a young Katheryn would be very proud of.
And since every celebration calls for cupcakes… I have you covered!
I absolutely couldn’t resist the urge to bake some “Electric” inspired cupcakes for today. It’s hard for me to believe, but the last time I baked cupcakes was back in February. A baking session was definitely overdue, especially since it was also my birthday on Wednesday and I had NO cake whatsoever.
Pikachu seems like someone who might like lemon cake, right?
I was also today years old when I discovered the existence of edible color markers. Using them to write on the fondant was very fun! I think my biggest challenge was the amount of pressure I use in my strokes. There’s no room for error, especially when you’ve already started designing something. But hey – it was definitely a lot easier than using a brush and food coloring!
There’s no reason for me to not enjoy my cupcakes today, and there’s no reason that this life can’t be electric! Be a part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary festivities by using #Pokemon25.
