Just two years ago, Sigrid caught listeners all over the world by surprise with the piece of pop perfection that was her first album Sucker Punch. The album debuted at #4 on the UK Album Chart, and at #1 in her home country of Norway. After spending time on the road supporting Maroon 5 and later embarking on her own headlining tour, Sigrid spent time in LA working on even more new music! But the moment the pandemic hit, Sigrid found herself on the first flight home.
While heading back to Norway, Sigrid came up with the idea for her new single “Mirror,” out now via Island Records. The song was finished in Denmark, where Sigrid felt as though she could get back to the basics of the songwriting process. There’s no place like being in the studio for Sigrid, especially right beside her piano.
Sigrid also finds joy in being in front of the camera, and the music video for “Mirror” will have viewers feeling just as good. The clip was directed by Femke Huurdeman, and depicts an increase in self-love after a relationship has come to end. Sigrid says, “We wanted to explore how conflicting it can feel to have different sides of yourself competing against each other, and not working together. And as I can’t stand still whilst singing, there’s a lot of dancing, running, driving – you can tell I had a great time on the shoot :)”.
Femke adds, “It can be quite liberating to reinvent yourself after getting out of a relationship. This journey of finding your core, coming to terms with who you are and radiating this from oneself is at the heart of the concept of the video. For me, it’s always important to showcase a 3-dimensional image of a character. We built together on a language of movements, and different moods for each scene, all rooted in Sigrid’s own style of performing. She can be empowering, humorous, sensitive, playful, captivating and bold, and that’s something I think you can feel throughout the video.“
