Monsta X just released their ninth mini-album One Of A Kind, but let’s get one thing straight. Even though the title track is called “GAMBLER,” these guys did NOT come to play.
Each of the seven tracks on the album are as ferocious as can be, but they take on a slightly different vibe than Monsta X’s 2020 projects. Rather than being met with tons of thrilling bass in your face this time around, the guys decided to play it cool and created a more low-key, yet still delightful feels. The entire album also sounds extremely cohesive, which only adds to the magic of the listening experience! To put it in the most simple way possible – the guys played it cool with One Of A Kind, and they’re officially cooler than ever.
(Yes, I definitely seized the opportunity to make a pun.)
Monsta X also seized the opportunity to show off their creative skills during the entire process of creating One Of A Kind. Hyungwon wrote and produced “BEBE,” making this the second time we’ve seen a self-composed selection from him since his debut. He mentioned, “I’ve always wanted to write a song dedicated to my fans, and this was a great opportunity for me to make that wish come true. I want them to feel loved by me, and us Monsta X, and realize how much we love and think of them.”
I.M is credited as a writer all throughout the album, but he also helped compose and arrange “Rotate” as well! He quickly elaborated, “the track is about flowing chemistry, which doesn’t require further explanation.” Joohoney is credited throughout the album as a writer and producer too, and was the main producer for “GAMBLER.”
There’s something about “GAMBLER” that just makes you want to keep coming back to it. Somehow, the music video manages to double the effect. No need to take my word for it though! Joohoney said “it’s a song that’s unforgettable; a song that you keep wanting to listen to; a song that you want to repeat after. I’d like to say that it’s literally the best song.”
