Starting something new can be quite exciting, and Skylar Astin is ready to throw a massive celebration.
The LA-based singer and actor has graced plenty of stages across Broadway, and has appeared in shows and movies such as Pitch Perfect and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. But when the world stood still last year, Jerome found himself spending less time in front of the cameras and more time at home. (Way… way… way more time.) He decided to turn his home office into a recording studio, and was ready to turn his dream of releasing his own solo music into a reality!
“For the first time in a long time, I was home alone with all of this extra time to play piano and explore music without any extra pressure,” Skylar spilled. “Last summer, in particular, was an inspiring time for me. I was in a creative headspace, a new relationship, and a lot of this record was inspired by that. On social media, I had a lot of fun playing piano and posting covers of other people’s songs, but I’m really excited to put myself out there with my own music. I want to reach people and share a different side of me that no one has seen before.”
It all begins today with Astin’s new single “Without You.” The song is all about the excitement of knowing you’ve scored, or as Astin says, “It’s about feeling that new connection with someone, being fully present and not wanting to live without that person.”
Astin hopes his new artistic avenue will help the world gain a better understanding of who he is. He says, “It’s always vulnerable to put yourself out there whether the music is deeply personal or not, but these songs are an extension of myself, so it feels especially personal.“
