In the long run, there’s certain things that may not be so good for us. But in the moment, they might just be all we need in order to get by. It can be so hard to not overindulge, but sometimes it ends up being one of the best forms of self care. After all, you’ve probably figured out that it can be pretty hard to resist something you love!
It’s time to listen to the story of merci, mercy’s conflict with such a scenario in her new single “Winnie Crush.” Last year, the twenty year old artist proved she’s not one to hold back when it’s time to open up to her listeners. Her debut EP no thank you, no thanks offered an intriguing stroll through her experiences with anxiety and self-examination.
merci, mercy bounced between Beijing and Thailand during her early teen years, before moving back to rural Australia. Upon her return, she felt quite isolated, but came to realize that music could help her release her feelings in a constructive way. Thus, she began to work on thank you, no thanks! She mentioned, “It turns out all the songs are to do with relationships. With other people, with alcohol, with my anxiety, and with myself.”
The same energy continues today. According to merci, mercy, “Winnie Crush” is all about the toxic relationship she has with herself. She elaborates, “I can barely afford what is good for my body let alone what’s bad for it. I’ve tricked myself to believe this is what is good for me, that it’s something that makes me happy. But I can’t afford to do this to myself anymore, I can’t afford a love that doesn’t exist.”
It’s hard to not love “Winnie Crush,” but thankfully, there’s no need to feel any guilt here! Check it out below.
