Right about now, it would be a great idea to keep your eyes on Neska Rose. The rising singer/songwriter is well aware of the fact her brain is her most powerful tool, and it’s currently overflowing with ideas she’s ready to carefully execute.
Neska Rose’s latest and greatest is “Stupid Ideas,” a song all about resisting urges to cave into a feeling you may not necessarily want to feel. We’ve all seen a moment in a cartoon where there’s an angel and a demon sitting on the shoulders of our favorite characters. While the angel will encourage the character to do the right thing, the demon will have a totally different line of advice in store. While it can be tempting to follow that evil voice, you don’t have to go down that path!
As Neska mentioned in our conversation, “It’s about that demon on your shoulder that sometimes tells you to go a different way, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that could happen. You’re just acknowledging that it’s there, and you say to that spirit/demon/whatever it is, ‘okay, I feel that you’re here, but I’m letting you go.’ I basically wrote it about acknowledging the fears, the insecurities, all of that, and just saying ‘I’m ignoring you.'”
Dust off your shoulders and keep going? Sure, challenge accepted. Despite the serious nature of the underlying topic though, Neska wanted to emphasize just how fun it was to create this song. Working side by side with her producer Ainjel Emme, the two were able to create exactly what Neska had envisioned for this song.
“We were at the studio, and I told her exactly what I want this song to feel like,” Neska shared. “This song is about the crazy thoughts in your brain, so I was like, I really want to portray that in the production. That crazy feeling. I feel like we really put that out there, what I was going for.”
The music video for “Stupid Ideas” had to be just as vibrant as the song, and Neska just wanted to have fun with it. She mentioned, “I was like, this song is crazy, so let’s just go full out and make this music video crazy!”
From the music video to even the cover art, Neska has made sure she gets the job done her way. She also enjoys collaborating with others, especially her own sister Libi! The two sang together on Neska’s previously released single “Copy & Paste,” and Neska couldn’t be happier to keep it all in the family.
“I feel like she (Libi) makes every project greater,” Neska said. “Her amazing piano playing really wanted to make me play an organ solo, because I feel like they’re not very presented in music now aways.” Neska also wanted to make sure Libi’s acting skills were put on display in the music video as well! She added, “With her amazing comedic skills, I definitely wanted to put that in the music video. We have such a great bond, I can’t even describe that relationship I have with her.”
Having such great support from her relatives means everything to Neska. “My family is who I am, basically. They really understand my worth, even my mom… she produces everything that I do, and Michael (my stepdad) directed all the music videos. They’re my most loved people, they’re my world.”
Ultimately, Neska hopes she can continue to create her own reality. From being on the go and being able to inspire others through her art, she hopes she can inspire others to run and chase whatever they wish! That sounds like a pretty good idea, doesn’t it?
