As she continues to reflect upon moments in life that have been quite sour, corook is creating fun and lively songs that mold these experiences into a sweet story. When it comes to their new single “degree,” corook definitely understood the assignment!
Not all that glitters is gold, especially when it comes to college. There’s many parts of the experience that may sound like a dream for many, especially those coming straight out of high school. Choosing your own schedule, perhaps not having to wake up at 7am forever to go to class, going to cool parties, meeting so many new people, and having a newfound sense of ✨ freedom ✨. On the other hand, there’s the nightmare of having to deal with the financial aid process, a ton of priorities knocking on your door, stress, and for many, a colossal pile of student loan debt. Truthfully, we could argue that (everything just mentioned) is a billion times more scary than any horror film ever made.
If we can get an amen, we can also get an “aye, man, go listen to ‘degree’ like… right now!”
corook spilled, “I graduated from the most prestigious contemporary music college in the whole world, and after graduating became a cashier at CVS for three years. I have a shit ton of student loan debt, as do most millennials. The only way I know how to cope with the gravity of the situation is to make a funny song out of it. So, one day all my roommates were gone and I thought, ‘I have the whole house to myself. How weird can I get?’ I hope people listen to it and feel like – um, fuck yeah, I’m broke. It’s the system. It’s not me. I’m doing my best.”
