Knock knock! 20-year-old alt-pop newcomer Blessing has arrived with her debut EP, the girl next door.

Growing up being the youngest of five siblings, Blessing found music to be a source of solace, especially as she entered her teen years. Having to spend her senior year of high school at home due to the pandemic, Blessing sought out even more opportunities to tend to her creative side. While the world may have seemed like it was turning ever so slowly, Blessing was turning her innermost thoughts and emotions into raw, relatable tunes an entire generation can resonate with.

the girl next door serves as a warm welcome to Blessing’s suffocating vocals and introspective songwriting. “Each of these songs are really the things I never bothered saying being that I felt no one was listening,” she says of the EP. “That truly gave me the advantage to writing everything I was feeling at the time. I just thought well since no one is ever going to hear these I might as well say it all, regardless of how desperate, embarrassing, or unpleasant my words may be.”

As Blessing seeks the answers to many of life’s burning questions, these songs are simply part of the process of making sense of it all. Take “rage” for example, where Blessing wonders how things could’ve been… if they had been smooth sailing to begin with.

Then there’s “boys like you,” which Blessing says is about “embracing the journey of falling for someone who doesn’t even know you exist…it’s about well-known Instagram boys with millions of followers that I find myself crushing mad hard on but at the end of the day, they don’t even know who I am.”

Blessing’s debut EP will give you a good idea of not only who the Houston-based artist is, but why you’ll want to extend your welcome into her world for many releases to come!
