After nearly two years, rising songstress Anna Clendening has returned with a new single to wrap ourselves in!
It’s been a minute since the world has heard from Anna, but her world has still been turning quickly. Since releasing her Evolve EP back in 2020, Anna has moved from LA to Nashville, and has come up with a very creative way to convey her feelings about her exes.
During the early stages of constructing her forthcoming Untitled Ex’s EP, Anna had an idea to share various stories about her past five relationships that went south. However, she wanted to add an extra round of spice to the project.
“Being a spiteful human sometimes, I thought it would be cool to name each song after a guy,” Anna spilled. “My manager said it wouldn’t be cool to get sued—he was right. That’s how we came up with Untitled Ex’s. Every song is very much about a specific person.”
Anna’s new single “Sweatshirt” is the first story in this series, where she opens up about an ex who literally stole her sweatshirt. Co-written alongside Dan Richards and produced by Colin Brittain, “Sweatshirt” stitches together Anna’s pristine vocals and songwriting skills for song that you’ll want to throw onto your summer playlists!
“I always bought oversized shirts at every tour stop,” Anna says. “I let this guy I was dating borrow one. Fast forward, we break up, he ends up dating his co-worker, called me on FaceTime, and he was wearing that shirt. He knowingly put it on to call me. There was overlap. Did he cheat? I think so. It doesn’t matter at this point, but it does. I thought, ‘How funny would it be if his girlfriend ended up pulling the shirt out of his drawer and wearing it?’ I was playing out this scenario in the song.”
